Charcoal

Charcoal love it of hate it, this burnt stick has been used since humans made marks on cave walls. I love the stuff, I use it to begin with ideas and flow of lines. Recently I have been making use of charcoal in a different way, by using the subtraction technique.

What is this? As the name suggests you remove or take away the charcoal with the use of various erasing methods. For example the good old eraser, glass paper and a cloth of different textures, I have many! Paper is also a big part of the overall effect of how charcoal behaves. If you have a rough watercolour type paper, this will give an amazing texture to work with.

I have photographed the eastern skies in the morning, walking with Charlie dog in all weather. I have tried to capture the storms, rain and ocean in a dramatic way, catching the light as it filters through the clouds. Magical start to the day, New Zealand really is beautiful.

I hope you like the result of my wandering.
